1962 Fender Princeton Brown Panel Vintage Pre-CBS Tube Amp 6G2, Near-Mint w/ Oxford 10J4 & Ftsw

1962 Fender Princeton Brown Panel Vintage Pre-CBS Tube Amp 6G2, Near-Mint w/ Oxford 10J4 & Ftsw

Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Princeton in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with footswitch. This vintage Brown Panel era Princeton features a very original 6G2 circuit, loaded with a matched pair of vintage Sylvania 6V6GT power tubes. The Princeton has a tone that is very dynamic and warm, with crystalline clean tones giving way to rich, saturated overdrive when turning up the Volume knob. The circuit is as pure and straightforward as they come, and the single Tone knob has a surprisingly wide range. The bias based tremolo circuit has a strong, dimensional pulse and particularly broad range of speeds too.

The circuit retains the original pair of Schumacher transformers which date to the 43rd (power) and 37th (output) weeks of '62, and the original Stackpole pots are also present. The preamp retains all of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps, which have a particularly sweet, musical tonal character, with new small Sprague-made electrolytics in the preamp and a couple new resistors. The power supply includes a modern CE Manufacturing multi-section can cap, and a three-prong power cable has been installed. The tube complement comprises all vintage valves, with a matched pair of vintage Sylvania 6V6GTs, an RCA 5Y3 rectifier, and Tungsol and GE tubes in the preamp.

The speaker is the original gold frame Oxford 10J4, with a date code on the edge of the frame from the 29th week of 1962. The original tube chart is near-mint with sharp corners and unfaded paper, retaining an "LK" date stamp which translates to November, 1962.

This amp features the original rough brown tolex and wheat grillcloth, both of which are exceptionally clean. The faceplate is pristine, retaining the original brown barrel knobs and white silkscreen text, and the stock leather handle and push-in sphinx glides (feet) are also present.

A vintage replica footswitch is included.
